Reflections on Events in Chile

In 2005 we trekked through Patagonia (both Chile and Argentina).  Here some Lenticular Clouds on the Chilean side.

Earthquakes:  an ever present danger in many parts of the world.
Keeping those suffering in our hearts and minds.

Eaten Alive

Literally being eaten alive by the Elk overpopulation at RMNP.  This winter many of the Aspen are behind 8 foot tall fences to protect them from being 'Eaten Alive'.

Snow Days

Sometimes mistakes can still be interesting..........

I had the wrong filter on my wide angle lens, and ended up with vignettes.  First I thought,  waste!  But on a second take I decided that it was an interesting effect and some of the shots were salvageable.

Mardi Gras Memories

My husband and I met in New Orleans.  We lived near the Parade route of one of the largest Krewes, Endymion. So we hosted a party every year for our friends.

And raditionslittle known outside the region,  such as the Mardi Gras Indians.

And the expected Revelers On Bourbon Street

Besides the revelry, there were also simpler celebrations:

Save a Place for Our Children

This sculpture was created by Team Czech Republic. Its a bit hard to see from the images, but it consists of two stylized adult figures, surrounding the figure of a child. Its very reminiscent of sculpture from the 1960's.

Dragon

Another team from Canada created this sculpture called Transitions. This was one of my favorites, but it didn't win.

The front depicts a dragon, while the back has an image of a serpent swallowing its tail, creating a circular form known as the Wheel of Time and Like.

Memories from my Youth

Most of the sculptures were based on clay models. Here is the back of the one for Memories from my Youth. I couldn't get around to the front to shoot it from that angle. The large cube incasing the model, represents the original block of snow each team started with. It would have been fun to see them working on their projects. We'll try to do that next year.

Memories from my Youth

Memories from my Youth was the second place sculpture from the 2010 Breckenridge contest. The sculpture is two sided. The front being the face of a princess, and the back being the scene of a banzai garden with a tiny bridge and a stream she remembers from her youth.

A Visit to the Stanley Hotel

I had actually wanted to post on our trip to the Breckenridge Snow Sculpture Contest, but my husband has been to busy to work on his photos.

So let's give him some time and look at our visit to the Stanley Hotel in October 2009.  The Stanley was the inspiration for Stephen King's The Shining.........

In case you hadn't notice, I enjoy nighttime photography and B&W.

For more photos at the Stanley check over the next couple of days, or to see them all now when you
