Aborted Balloon Launch

Early Sunday morning at the Colorado Balloon Festival. We got there at sunrise to watch the launch, but the winds came up shortly after they started to inflate the balloons, so they never launched.

Balloon lighting without balloons

Traditionally every night of the festival they conduct a balloon lighting, where they inflate the balloons and light them up with their burners. This year the winds were too strong to put out the balloons, but the operators decided to provide a light show anyway. 

Colorado Balloon Festival

This is the last of the annual Colorado Balloon Festivals. Every Labor day the Balloon Festival was held at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs. Due to persistent high winds this year's festival was pretty much a bust. But I was still able to get some interesting photos. More to come through the week.

Once the balloons are inflated enough its time to light the burners. Each time they trigger the burners, the balloon lights up like a light bulb.

Inflation

We went to the Colorado balloon classic "Balloon-Glo" this Labor Day Weekend. It was held at dusk in Colorado Springs.

The balloonists start by partially inflating their craft with giant fans.

This process takes quite some time.
