At the Outlet Mall

We made a trek to one of the larger outlet malls near Castle Rock........But we found a much more interesting 'outlet' across the road:

A very dirty lens, but the grit adds to the mood of the place.

Adventures in Gold Hill

We ventured into the Foothills last weekend, following Sunshine Canyon, a place we'd never been.  Found that last years terrible fire was up that road, but also came upon Gold Hill, a 'living ghost town'.

(Read the sign carefully)

We plan on spending more time there this summer.....exploring gold Hill and other Foothills mining towns.

Don't Forget the Mining History!

There is more to Nederland than just the Frozen Dead Guy.

After a number of name changes since it founding, the name of Nederland stuck after the purchase of the local mine by Dutch investors and establishment of the Nederland Mining Company.  The name was chosen because the new mill at Nederland at 8,234 feet elevation, was 2,000 feet lower than the mine and original mill site.

Example of a miner's cabin, still in use today.

Snow Angels?

Any snow bound soul must remember making Snow Angels as a child.  But I never had a dog before that liked to make them too.
