An irrigation ditch at Twin Lakes Open Space

Near the Avery brewery in Boulder county is an open space named Twin Lakes. Along the eastern side of the one of the reservoirs is an old irrigation ditch. We thought the flowing water and the dense vegetation made for an interesting photograph.  This was taken sometime back in the Summer months.

This image was made with a Mamiya 7 and Kodak Portra film.

More from the Nature Kids Discovery Zone

Near the Alicia Sanchez International School is an open space park that we recently discovered. A month ago the whole area exploded with black-eyed Susans. Here are some images I took of that.

Cardinal Mill

Two weekends ago, the Boulder Open space hosted a tour of various hard rock mines in the mountains above Nederland Colorado. This is the stamp Mill for the Cardinal mine. This week we will look at the jones we visited during this tour.

Artists Day at Walker Ranch

Walker Ranch is a parcel of the Boulder Open Spaces parks system. Today they hosted an open house for Artists and photographers to photograph the site and the interior of the buildings. I hot three rolls of B&W negative film and made a few digital IR shots. I'll be showing the IR shots this week.

Cows and Barn

The field is public open space in Boulder County, but is grandfathered in to allow grazing. The grass was still mostly dead from the winter, but the cows were finding something of interest. The image was made around dusk, requiring a long exposure. The long exposure allowed some of the more energetic cows to blur.

Image made with my Travelwide 4x5 camera.

Railroad Trustle

I'm not quite satisfied with this location. Will be revisiting it again once we get some more snow.

Week Five of the 52 Roll Challenge

Week 5 of the 52 Roll Challenge is a Black and White Landscape. I chose to shoot Longs Peak from a spot in the local open space. I used me 4x5 Travelwide camera, 90 mm lens and Ilford Delta 100 film. While the exposure turned out ok, there is still something missing with the focus. The shot is much softer than I'd prefer.

Check out the 52 Rolls site for my other shot this week.

Week Three of the 52 rolls challenge

Scene along Coal Creak in the Boulder Open space. Shot made with my Travelwide 4x5 camera. Film was 40 year outdated Kodak Ektapan black and white negative film.  The film originally had an ASA rating of 100, but due to its age it appears to now be at least three stops slower than that. I also messed up something with the development tank resulting in the artifact on the right center of the frame.
