Motion

An experiment suggested by Eli Vega. Shooting with intentional motion blur. The hard part is getting a blurred pattern that is interesting. But since pixels are free, I just kept shooting until I got something I liked.

Water Lilly

Another shot from Hudson Gardens. This one without the diffuser. The image has much higher contrast because of the harsh light. I think I would have preferred it with softer light. Unfortunately the flower was in the middle of the pond, so well out of the reach of my using the diffuser.

Water Flower

Went down to Hudson Gardens, located south of Denver in Littleton, for a workshop run by Eli Vega. This one is my favorite of all the shots made that day. Eli helped refine the composition. An important new technique he introduced us to is the use of diffusers to lower contrast of the midday sun. Made a huge difference in the image.

"Stinky," the Corpse plant, looks rather plain in the IR spectrum. Denver's first blooming Corpse flower, at the Denver Botanical Gardens.

Happy World Photography Day

I honor of World Photography Day Kate and I ventured out to see "Stinky," Denver's first blooming Corpse flower, at the Denver Botanical Gardens. It was a 3 hour wait in line to see it. Contrary to its name, we didn't get to experience the smell of rotting flesh normally associated with the bloom. See more about Stinky here.

IR of a Sunflower

We have a nice crop of sunflower plants this year and I wanted to see what an IR version of a sunflower looks like. The flower comes out brilliant white, but the center still looks interesting.

Gnarled Tree revisited

One of my early IR shots was that of an old gnarled tree over by the lake. The original photo was of a bare tree in winter time. I wanted to revisit it at full summer foliage. Took this yesterday.

Farm Silo

The feed store on the edge of Lafayette has shut down. When we went to photograph it before it was torn down to build new houses, we discovered a collection of silos in the back. I like the industrial look of the structure.
