Veterans Memorial Tunnel

This is the newest Tunnel.  Actually and enlargement/replacement of a smaller tunnel.    So new that it has no separate Wikipedia entry.  The Tunnels was enlarged to add potential express lanes at a later date.  It is just east of Idaho Springs on Interstate 70.  We usually approach this area by merging onto I-70 for US Hwy 6, and yes it is a left lane merge:

Here below in the westbound lanes:

And below we are inside the tunnel.  It also has a curve:

Sunday Tunnels

No new windows to share on Wednesday.  So for now you get a few Sunday Tunnels.  Here, the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels.  Edwin Johnson was the Governor who lobbied for these Tunnels that go beneath the Continental Divide on Interstate 70, approximately 60 miles west of Denver. And hopefully we all know that President Eisenhower started the Interstate System.  West bound is Eisenhower and east bound is Johnson.  Hazardous materials still have to go over Loveland Pass.

We were headed west at the time.....

As you can see the Tunnels curve.  Entering from the east we make a right curve.  The Tunnels also drop in elevation going west.

And Finally exiting on the west side....

These photos were part of a roll I shot for the Frugal Film Project.

Garden Update - Everything Survived

Front Yard above.  Our first Snow on Sept 8-9th.   Early for a hard Freeze, but everything survived.  Even the Zuchinni which we forgot to cover (below).

Back yard Snow.  The Eggplants were wrapped and in front of the planter, and below, unwrapped>

The plants in the snow pics wrapped in blue were my two largest heirloom tomatoes, which were fine also.  The Sioux Tomato above.

Below the Paul Robeson Tomato, which were found out was originally a Russian Tomato.

So my garden continues for at least another month.

9/11

I thought it appropriate to share FDR's real quote from his first Inaugural Speech:

"So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is...fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and of vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. And I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days."

We need to avoid the "Terror that Paralyzes".........

For 9/11 let's give FDR's full quote some thpought.
