Illegal fort


Illegal fort near Custer SD. This stockade fort was constructed by a group of adventurers looking for gold in the Black Hills. They needed a fort to protect themselves from the local Indians whose land they were encroaching upon.

Break is over

I've taken a bit more of a break posting than I'd intended, but that's over now. I've been working on some of my digital IR photos to print. I'll start with printing those here.

Land through the Lens Photography Exhibit

Waiting for the Bison


For the Bison roundup, the crowds were restricted to two areas on either side of a valley. These locations were technically safe from the stampede, but in reality only a handful of riders stood between us and the herd.

Homestake Mine


Homestake Mine was a deep underground gold mine located in Lead, South Dakota. It closed in 2002. The mine is the site of the Homestake Experiment, a deep underground laboratory to observe solar neutrinos.

Not the stargate


Visiting the hard rock mine in Lead South Dakota. The mine is now used as a location for high energy physics experiments and this is part of one. But it reminded me of the StarGate.
