Week Three of the 52 rolls challenge

Scene along Coal Creak in the Boulder Open space. Shot made with my Travelwide 4x5 camera. Film was 40 year outdated Kodak Ektapan black and white negative film.  The film originally had an ASA rating of 100, but due to its age it appears to now be at least three stops slower than that. I also messed up something with the development tank resulting in the artifact on the right center of the frame.

Black Lives Matter; Denver

The mayor of Denver was supposed to speak at the MLK remembrance at the Civic Center Park, but the local BLM group occupied the stage and wouldn't give it back to city officials. The mayor eventually appeared after the protesters had left.

MLK Day Parade/March

Switching gears back to digital and street shooting, on Monday we ventured down to Denver to watch and participate in the MLK remembrance. Not a huge crowd but somewhere under a thousand participated in the march.

The march concluded at the civic Center Park, near the State Capital.

Coal Creek

This is an image of Coal Creek near where I live. It is part of the Boulder Open Space and was made with my Travelwide 4x5 camera using photographic paper as the negative. Using the paper resulted in a very high contrast image, which made it difficult to scan. I need to play with exposure and some other tricks to see if I can get a better image.

Kinetic Sculpture

This giant kinetic sculpture is part of the Denver Union Station remodel. I tried to capture its motion, with less than desired success.

Fast Track Train

This post got lost, so I'm reposting it.

Image of the Denver Fast Track train at Union Station in Denver. Shot with Ilford 3200 high speed black and white film, giving it the strong grain. Like the star bursting of the bright lights.

Denver's Union Station in the Dark

Here are to versions of the same location of the new Denver Union Station.

The top image is moved slightly more toward the axis of the train tracks and includes the stair railing. The second is a slightly higher angle and includes more to the canopy.

The grain in both of the images is due to the  use of Ilford 3200 film, over exposed by one stop. I really like the grain in these scans, but am less happy with the softness I'm getting when I try to print it.

First Week of the 52 Rolls Challenge

This is my first entry into the 52 Rolls Challenge. The 52 Rolls Challenge is a variant on the 52 Week Photography challenge where one shoots at least one roll a week for a year. The challenge can be found here

Week One is a self portrait. I took my portrait using my new Travelwide 4x5 camera and using photographic paper in place of film. My face is blurred because the shoot took 14 seconds and I purposely moved my head through the exposure. Paper has an equivalent ISO of about 3, so using it is a bit of a challenge in itself.

Next Week's challenge is a landscape. I'll post the challenges on Tuesdays.

FastTracks

Close up detail from 120 negative of the new Fast Tracks train in Denver. Shot at night at the Denver Union Station. I love the grain and star burst effects in this. Haven't tried to print it yet. Will have to see if it preserves its character.
