La Junta Light and Power

Found a great old yellow brick Art Deco style building in La Junta, still serving as the local power switching station.

Bristol Colorado Service Station

The old gas station in Bristol Colorado. Our Colorado ghost towns guide listed Bristol as having some interesting buildings. When we got there we discovered that while not thriving, Bristol was still holding its own. The gas station was being restored by the son of the owner. He would drive over from Denver on the weekends to do the work. The locals were friendly once we broke the ice and had some wonderful stories about life in southern Colorado.

Shadow, light and reflection

I was waking thru this highway underpass a month ago and liked the way the light was framed. So I went back with my camera about a week ago to see what I could capture. I'm not sure if I like how this turned out. I think I need to come back on a day with less contrast, and I need to think some more about the composition.  I also find the distorted angles distracting - the wall, floor and ceiling are not square - so next time I will try shooting with a normal lens.

The Christening

Getting the new vehicle dirty in Picketwire Canyon, south of La Junta Colorado. The Toyota did quite well in the slick mud coating the canyon.
